The Whickers Podcast Pitch Competition is an annual awards initiative celebrating original audio documentary storytelling, recognising excellence in concept, production, narrative, and creative engagement in factual audio formats. Established by The Whickers in 2015, in partnership with Sheffield DocFest, the competition provides funding and support for independent podcast makers worldwide, awarding £15,000 to the winner and £5,000 to a runner-up, alongside opportunities to pitch at Sheffield DocFest and receive mentorship from leading industry professionals.
The award is open to all independent producers, regardless of career stage, and encourages projects that are authored, innovative in storytelling, and compelling for global English-speaking audiences. The competition also embraces the growing trend of solo and episodic audio documentaries, supporting both single-episode and series proposals.
Finalists present their pitches at Sheffield DocFest in the UK, where the winner is announced, showcasing the evolving landscape of documentary podcasting and fostering the development of bold, imaginative audio narratives.
