Looking for podcast awards to enter in 2026? This guide covers more than 30 podcast awards, competitions, recognition programs, and related honors, from major industry programs to genre-specific, independent, national, journalism, and platform-based recognition.

You’ll also find how different podcast awards are judged, what they actually measure, how to evaluate an award before paying an entry fee, and which programs are currently active, paused, closed, or changing.

The right podcast award isn’t necessarily the biggest one. It depends on what you want the recognition to accomplish and whether the people you want to reach actually recognize the award.

For a broader database of podcast and audio recognition programs, see the Recognized.fm Podcast Awards Database.

Important: Not every program above is a conventional entry-based podcast competition. Some use audience data, platform performance, public voting, editorial selection, or committee selection instead. Check the current rules before planning an entry.

For the larger taxonomy, see Podcast Awards by Type and the Recognized research on how podcast awards are categorized.

Podcast Awards You Can Enter or Track in 2026

There is no single type of podcast award. Some programs judge production and storytelling, some focus on a particular genre or community, and others measure audience size or platform performance.

Before entering, determine whether the program accepts submissions, nominations, or neither.

The Ambies

The Ambies are presented by The Podcast Academy. The first ceremony was held on May 16, 2021, and winners are chosen by a vote of Academy members. Categories have shifted and merged from year to year.

The Ambies represent one of the major industry-wide recognition programs for podcasting, but their membership-based judging structure is different from a public-vote or audience-metric award.

Recognized research: Track the Ambies and other podcast awards in the Recognized.fm database.

Signal Awards

The Signal Awards focus on podcasting and include categories for Shows, Limited Series and Specials, Individual Episodes, and Branded Shows and Advertising.

Winners are recognized at gold, silver, and bronze levels, alongside a Listener’s Choice award. The program also includes categories that some broader awards do not, including sleep and companion podcasts.

That makes the Signals particularly relevant when the category itself is an important part of the reason you’re entering.

Recognized research: See the Signal Awards and current podcast-award tracking.

Webby Awards

The Webby Awards include podcast categories within a broader internet awards program.

The 29th Webby winners, announced in April 2025, included podcast awards for shows, episodes, and features. The Webbys also operate the Signal Awards as a sister podcast-focused program.

The important distinction is that the Webbys are broader than podcasting. A Webby can therefore represent recognition within the wider internet and digital media ecosystem rather than exclusively within podcasting.

Recognized research: Explore podcast awards tracked by Recognized.

iHeartPodcast Awards

The eighth annual iHeartPodcast Awards took place on March 16, 2026, at SXSW in Austin.

The program includes more than 20 genre categories and three Icon Awards. Podcast of the Year was decided by fan vote.

This makes the iHeartPodcast Awards different from awards where a professional jury is the primary decision-maker.

Recognized research: Compare podcast awards and their judging formats.

British Podcast Awards

The British Podcast Awards are a national podcast awards program in the UK. They began in 2017 and are now run by Haymarket Media Group.

The program includes a Listeners’ Choice category alongside judged awards.

National awards can be particularly relevant when your podcast’s audience, subject matter, guests, or business relationships are concentrated in a particular country.

Recognized research: Browse national and regional podcast awards.

Independent Podcast Awards

Independent creator awards focus on work made without the backing of a major network or brand.

The Independent Podcast Awards and Indie PaC Award are examples of programs designed around independent podcasting.

For an independent creator, the relevant question isn’t simply whether an award is famous. It’s whether the award’s eligibility, audience, and judging structure make sense for the type of podcast you’re producing.

Recognized research: Find independent podcast awards in the Recognized database.

Genre-Specific Podcast Awards

Genre awards compare podcasts within a narrower subject or audience category.

Examples in the current awards landscape include:

  • CLUE Awards for true crime
  • Sports Podcast Awards
  • Health Podcast Awards
  • HigherEd PodCon Awards

A genre-specific award can provide a different type of recognition from a broad podcast award because the relevant audience may understand the category and its significance more readily.

More research: Browse podcast awards by category and niche.

National and Regional Podcast Awards

National and regional programs recognize podcasting within a particular geographic or language market.

Examples include:

  • Canadian Podcast Awards
  • Australian Podcast Awards
  • Asia Podcast Awards
  • Premios Ondas Globales del Podcast

For a podcast built around a particular country, region, or language, local recognition may be more relevant than a broader international program.

More research: Explore national, regional, and international recognition programs.

Journalism and Audio Storytelling Awards

Journalism and festival programs can be relevant when a podcast is primarily documentary, reported, investigative, or narrative audio work.

Examples include:

  • Edward R. Murrow Awards
  • Online Journalism Awards
  • Third Coast International Audio Festival
  • Tribeca

These programs can place podcast work alongside journalism and other forms of audio storytelling rather than evaluating it solely as a conventional podcast.

Advertising and Branded Podcast Awards

Not every podcast award is designed for independent shows.

Advertising and creative programs can be relevant to agencies, brands, production companies, and branded podcasts.

Examples include:

  • Cannes Lions
  • D&AD

These programs evaluate commercial and creative impact rather than simply asking whether a podcast is a good general-interest show.

Mission and Community Awards

Some programs recognize social impact, educational work, or work created by or for specific communities.

Examples include:

  • Anthem Awards
  • Shorty Impact Awards
  • The Gracies

These programs can be relevant when the purpose or audience of the podcast is central to the work being recognized.

Podcast Awards by Type

Understanding the type of award you’re entering is more useful than treating every trophy as equivalent.

Broad Podcast Awards

These evaluate podcasting across multiple genres.

Examples include the Signal Awards, The Ambies, and podcast categories within the Webby Awards.

Mainstream Entertainment Awards

Mainstream entertainment awards can recognize podcasts alongside other forms of entertainment.

The Golden Globe for Best Podcast is an example.

Its first award was presented on January 11, 2026, to Good Hang with Amy Poehler. Eligibility was limited to 25 of the most listened-to podcasts based on platform data.

That makes it fundamentally different from an open-entry award: eligibility is determined before a creator can compete.

Platform and Metric Awards

Platform and metric awards measure something different from juried awards.

Spotify Creator Milestone Awards, for example, recognize podcast performance at defined stream thresholds. Spotify evaluates podcasts each quarter, with Bronze at 100 million streams, Silver at 250 million, and Gold at 500 million. In emerging markets, Bronze begins at 50 million.

YouTube Creator Awards similarly recognize audience milestones.

These are scale-based recognition programs, not awards intended to measure production quality through a judging panel.

National Awards

National programs recognize podcasting within a particular country’s industry.

Examples include the British Podcast Awards, Canadian Podcast Awards, and Australian Podcast Awards.

Regional and Language Awards

These focus on a region, language, or geographic market.

Examples include the Asia Podcast Awards and Premios Ondas Globales del Podcast.

Genre Awards

Genre awards focus on a specific niche.

Examples include true crime, sports, health, and higher education podcast programs.

Independent Creator Awards

Independent programs focus on creators working without major network or brand backing.

Examples include the Indie PaC Award and Independent Podcast Awards.

Journalism Awards

Journalism programs evaluate reporting and editorial work, often alongside newspapers, broadcasters, and other news organizations.

Festival Awards

Festival programs can focus heavily on audio storytelling and craft.

Advertising Awards

Advertising awards recognize branded content, commercial creativity, and campaign impact.

Mission Awards

Mission-focused programs recognize social, educational, or other forms of impact.

Community Awards

Community awards recognize work connected to a specific community or audience.

Hall of Fame Recognition

Hall of Fame programs are different again. They generally recognize career-long contribution rather than accepting conventional award entries.

The Podcast Hall of Fame is an example.

What Can Winning a Podcast Award Actually Do?

A credible award is outside proof that someone evaluated your work.

Listeners already judge shows by ratings, reviews, artwork, recommendations, and other signals. A respected nomination or win adds another signal.

Potential uses include:

  • Media kits and sponsor decks. Recognition can provide a third-party reference point.
  • Guest outreach. Recognition can help demonstrate credibility when approaching guests who screen requests.
  • Press and speaking. Awards can give journalists and event organizers a reason to mention your work.
  • Your bio. A nomination or win can continue to be useful after the ceremony.
  • Your website. Recognition can become part of your public credibility.
  • Business development. A relevant award can become supporting evidence in sales and partnership conversations.

An award does not guarantee downloads.

Some recognitions primarily measure scale. Others measure production quality. Others rely on voting. Some carry little meaning outside their own platform or community.

The value therefore depends on whether the people you want to reach know and respect the award.

The question isn’t simply “Did we win?”

It’s “Who cares that we won?”

What independent hosts report

On The Buzz, host NaVell J. Lee described how award recognition helped him reach film festivals, press junkets, and entertainment interviews.

That is one creator’s experience, not a typical result. Treat it as an example of the type of return worth looking for rather than proof that awards produce the same result for every podcast.

For more analysis of awards as recognition and social proof, see the Recognized publication on Substack.

How to Choose a Podcast Award

There is no universal “best podcast award.” Match the award to the audience and objective.

Start with your goal

Are you looking for sponsor credibility, press, audience growth, industry recognition, peer respect, or something else?

Different awards can serve different purposes.

Check who runs the award

Look for:

  • A named organization
  • A history of previous ceremonies
  • Public winner lists
  • An official website
  • Clear contact information

If you cannot establish who operates the program, investigate before paying an entry fee.

Check who judges the entries

A named jury, Academy membership, public vote, community vote, editorial selection, and platform data all measure different things.

Don’t treat them as interchangeable.

Check the judging criteria

A transparent program explains how entries are evaluated.

If the criteria are vague or unavailable, that is information worth considering before you enter.

Compare the full cost

The entry fee is only part of the cost.

Consider:

  • Entry fees
  • Additional category fees
  • Late fees
  • Your time preparing the submission
  • Travel to a ceremony
  • Tickets or attendance costs
  • Promotional materials

Ask whether your audience recognizes the award

An award only provides useful social proof if the people you want to impress understand what it represents.

A niche award may be more recognizable within its own community than a broader award that your target audience has never heard of.

Find out what happens after you win

Find out whether winners receive:

  • A physical trophy
  • A certificate
  • An official winner page
  • Promotional support
  • Press coverage
  • Social promotion
  • An archive listing

The recognition you can actually use after the ceremony is part of the value.

If you cannot answer questions about who runs the award, who judges it, and how judging works from the award’s own website, treat that as a finding.

For current award fees, deadlines, eligibility, and program status, use the Recognized.fm podcast awards database rather than relying on an old awards list.

Are Podcast Awards Worth Entering?

That depends on the relationship between the award, the cost of entering, and the audience you want to reach.

An award may be worth considering when:

  • Its audience recognizes the program.
  • Its judging process is clear.
  • Its criteria match the work you’re submitting.
  • The entry cost fits your budget.
  • The recognition can be used in your marketing or business development.
  • The program has a public record of previous winners.
  • You can identify who makes the decision.

An award deserves more investigation when:

  • You cannot identify the organization running it.
  • Judging criteria aren’t published.
  • Previous winners are difficult to verify.
  • The award has little recognition among your target audience.
  • Costs are unclear.
  • The program’s current status is unclear.

How Much Do Podcast Awards Cost?

Podcast award entry fees vary widely.

When comparing programs, don’t look only at the headline entry fee.

Check whether the program charges separately for:

  • Additional categories
  • Multiple entries
  • Late submissions
  • Membership
  • Ceremony attendance
  • Tickets
  • Promotional packages
  • Physical trophies or certificates

Also distinguish between entry fees and other recognition models.

A metric-based recognition program may not have a conventional entry fee at all because eligibility is determined by audience or platform performance.

Always check the current official award website for the latest fee schedule before entering.

For current fee and deadline research, see the Recognized podcast awards database and the latest Recognized podcast awards roundup.

Podcast Award Deadlines and Status

Award lists age quickly. A program appearing on an older “best podcast awards” article does not necessarily mean you can enter it today.

For current deadlines, fees, eligibility requirements, and recently closed programs, follow the Recognized podcast awards roundup.

Use the database for the broader program list and the roundup for time-sensitive changes.

How Podcast Awards Are Judged

One of the easiest mistakes to make is treating all awards as if they use the same judging system.

They don’t.

Jury judging

A panel evaluates entries against published or unpublished criteria.

Member voting

Members of an organization vote on nominees or finalists.

The Ambies are an example of a program where Academy members vote.

Public voting

Listeners or the general public determine some categories.

The iHeartPodcast Awards’ Podcast of the Year is an example.

Platform data

Some recognition is based on audience or platform performance.

The Golden Globe for Best Podcast used platform data to determine eligibility for its inaugural award.

Automatic milestones

Metric-based programs recognize podcasts when they reach predefined audience thresholds.

Spotify Creator Milestone Awards are an example.

Committee selection

Hall of Fame recognition can involve committee selection rather than an open submission.

Knowing which system you’re entering changes what evidence and strategy make sense.

How to Write a Podcast Award Submission

A strong submission should make it easy for judges to understand what you made, why it matters, and what evidence supports the entry.

Before submitting, identify:

The work

What exactly are you entering?

A show, season, episode, campaign, individual performance, or other category?

The achievement

What did the work accomplish?

The evidence

What numbers, results, reviews, testimonials, audience outcomes, or other evidence support your claims?

The difference

What makes the work relevant to the category?

The audience

Who was the work created for, and what did it accomplish for them?

Avoid vague claims such as “one of the best podcasts in the world” when you can provide specific evidence instead.

Where Independent Podcasters Can Compete

Most broad awards do not necessarily separate independent shows from network productions.

A solo producer may therefore be entering a category alongside teams with substantially different resources.

Four types of programs are particularly relevant to independent creators.

Independent creator awards

Programs such as the Indie PaC Award and Independent Podcast Awards focus on independent work.

Genre awards

A niche award evaluates work within a specific subject area.

Examples include the CLUE Awards, Sports Podcast Awards, Health Podcast Awards, and HigherEd PodCon Awards.

National and language awards

A national or language-specific program can be relevant when your podcast’s audience and subject matter are concentrated in a particular market.

Journalism and festival awards

Reported, documentary, and narrative podcasts may also fit programs that evaluate journalism or audio storytelling.

For a limited budget, compare the audience, judging structure, eligibility, and cost of each program before deciding where to spend your submission budget.

Podcast Awards That Are Paused, Closed, or Changing

Older awards articles are particularly dangerous here because program status can change.

The following programs require particular attention when checking older lists.

Program Current status in this guide What to know
People’s Choice Podcast Awards Postponed indefinitely The 2025 ceremony did not take place.
Golden Crane Podcast Awards On hiatus Recognized.fm tracking reports no awards since 2023.
European Podcast Award Defunct Previously judged across 10 countries.
Golden Globe for Best Podcast New in 2026 First awarded January 11, 2026.
Spotify Podcast Awards Expanding Regional fan-voted awards began in Mexico in 2025, with Latin America and France added in 2026, according to Recognized.fm tracking.

People’s Choice Podcast Awards

The People’s Choice Podcast Awards ran for about two decades and were one of the long-running podcast awards built around listener voting.

The 2025 ceremony, scheduled for September 28, 2025, did not take place following the death of founder Todd Cochrane on September 8, 2025.

Geek News Central, run by Cochrane’s sons, describes the awards as on hiatus, with the possibility that Blubrry could continue them.

As of September 26, 2026, the current research for this article found no relaunch announcement.

Golden Crane Podcast Awards

Recognized.fm tracking lists the Golden Crane Podcast Awards as on hiatus, with no awards since 2023.

Check for a new announcement before treating the program as an active award opportunity.

European Podcast Award

The European Podcast Award is listed here as defunct. It previously judged podcasts across 10 countries.

Golden Globe for Best Podcast

The Golden Globe introduced its Best Podcast award in 2026.

The first award went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler on January 11, 2026.

Its eligibility model is different from a conventional open-entry podcast competition because eligibility was limited to 25 of the most listened-to podcasts based on platform data.

Spotify Podcast Awards

Spotify has also expanded regional fan-voted podcast recognition.

According to Recognized.fm tracking, these awards began in Mexico in 2025, with Latin America and France added in 2026.

Because platform programs can change quickly, check Spotify’s current announcements before relying on an older award listing.

For ongoing status tracking: Follow Recognized’s awards research.

What to Do After Your Podcast Is Nominated or Wins

A nomination is useful before the winners are announced. Most of the value comes from how you present it.

Name it precisely

Write:

Finalist, Best Health Podcast, [Award] 2026

rather than simply:

Award-winning podcast

Specific recognition is easier to verify and creates more trust.

Link to the source

Point to the official nominees or winners page so people can verify the recognition.

Put it where decisions happen

Add the recognition to:

  • Your media kit
  • Sponsor deck
  • Guest pitch
  • Podcast website
  • Speaker bio
  • Company bio
  • Relevant social profiles

Show the trophy

If you receive a physical trophy, certificate, or official award asset, use it where appropriate.

Distinctive awards can also become useful visual proof in videos, social posts, presentations, and event appearances.

Track what happens next

Don’t assume the award created value.

Track:

  • Sponsor replies
  • Guest bookings
  • Press mentions
  • Speaking invitations
  • Partnership inquiries
  • Website inquiries

That gives you evidence about whether the recognition was useful for your particular podcast.

Podcast Awards FAQ

What are the major podcast awards in 2026?

Major programs include the Ambies, Signal Awards, iHeartPodcast Awards, Webby Awards, British Podcast Awards, and other national, genre, independent, and regional programs.

The relevant award depends on what the program measures and who recognizes it.

What podcast awards can you enter?

Many podcast awards accept submissions, but not every recognition program does.

Some programs use juries, some use member or public voting, while others use platform data, automatic milestones, editorial selection, or committees.

Always check the current eligibility rules.

Are podcast awards worth entering?

They can be useful when the award is relevant to your audience, the judging process is credible, the cost fits your budget, and the resulting recognition can be used in your business or marketing.

An award does not automatically increase downloads or revenue.

Do podcast awards increase downloads?

Not necessarily.

Awards provide a recognition signal. Whether that signal produces audience growth depends on whether the relevant audience knows the award and whether you use the recognition effectively.

How are podcast awards judged?

Podcast awards can use professional juries, member voting, public voting, editorial selection, platform data, audience milestones, or committees.

The judging structure should be one of the first things you investigate.

Can independent podcasts enter major awards?

Some major awards accept independent podcasts, while others have eligibility rules that favor particular types of productions, membership groups, markets, or audience sizes.

Independent creators should check eligibility before investing time or money in an application.

How much does it cost to enter a podcast award?

Fees vary by program and can change by entry period, category count, and deadline.

The total cost may also include late fees, additional category fees, travel, ceremony tickets, and preparation time.

What should I include in a podcast award submission?

Follow the program’s criteria and provide specific evidence wherever possible.

Explain what you created, what it accomplished, who it served, and why it fits the category.

Are there free podcast awards?

Some recognition programs may not charge a conventional entry fee, while others use nomination, voting, platform, or milestone systems.

Check the current rules for each program.

For a current list of programs, fees, deadlines, and status changes, see the Recognized.fm Podcast Awards Database.
