The German Radio Awards (Deutscher Radiopreis) are an annual celebration created to recognise and elevate outstanding achievements in German radio broadcasting. Founded in 2010, the awards honour excellence, creativity, innovation, and impact in radio, highlighting programmes, presenters, journalists, and productions that set standards for quality in the medium. The awards aim to celebrate work that demonstrates informative, entertaining, and emotionally engaging content, as well as journalistic excellence in radio, contributing to the cultural and social significance of broadcasting in Germany.
Organised jointly by the public and private radio broadcasters in Germany, including the ARD radio programmes, Deutschlandradio, and private stations, the awards are coordinated by the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). Cooperation partners include the Grimme-Institut, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Radiozentrale, and radio marketing organisations such as ARD MEDIA and RMS, ensuring broad industry participation and credibility. Winners are selected through a jury process that emphasises quality, creativity, and audience relevance.
The awards encompass multiple categories that recognise diverse formats and achievements from outstanding reportage, interviews, comedy, and entertainment, to recognition of emerging talent highlighting exceptional contributions across traditional radio and audio-on-demand formats when eligible. Through these categories, the German Radio Awards aim to foster excellence, innovation, and cultural recognition within the German radio and audio community.
