The New America Award is an annual journalism award celebrating outstanding achievement in public service reporting that highlights issues affecting immigrant and ethnic communities in the United States. Established by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2004, the award recognises excellence in investigative, feature, and collaborative journalism across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
The award honours journalists, media outlets, advocacy groups, and individuals whose work contributes to greater understanding, social impact, and awareness of ethnic and immigrant experiences in America. Collaboration with ethnic media is considered but not required.
Entries are judged in partnership with organizations such as the Indigenous Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the Journalism and Women Symposium, reflecting a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and excellence in public service journalism.
